Bonanza Open Day

We wanted to post a few pictures from our wonderful open day that was held on November 8th, and say thank you to everyone who came out and our fantastic sponsors that made the event a great success!

Prospective homeowners were able to meet with the Bonanza team, speak with home design, construction, and finance specialists, and of course go on tours of the property and plots. It was a pleasure to meet so many new people and we look forward to welcoming them into our community!

For those of you who weren’t able to make it to the Open Day, don’t worry, we’d be happy to take you on a private tour and answer your questions at your convenience. Please get in touch with us through our contact page, or through our partners Knight Frank or Homenet directly. We’re looking forward to your call!

Update: Borehole Rehabilitation Underway

Eureka! Water is flowing at Bonanza!

Over the past few weeks the Bonanza team has been rehabilitating the existing boreholes at Bonanza. So far, the boreholes have been yielding more than decent amounts of water at 4 liters per second at each site.

Before Christmas, we’ll be laying down the pipes to get to each individual plot, which means community members will have piped water available for their upcoming building projects!

Of course, there will still be work to be done to create a robust water system for residents, including tanks, filters, booster pumps, and more, but for now, there is plenty of water available for construction.

Home Inspirations: Kid’s Rooms

We’ve heard from many potential Bonanza community members that they love the idea of raising their children at Bonanza, and why not? You’ll have plenty of private space, your children will be able to play outside in the fresh air with lots of birds, insects, and trees to keep them interested, and you have an opportunity to create a space for them to thrive in. This week we’re looking at four glorious children’s rooms as inspiration for designing an appropriate and integrated space for the little ones. Remember, to a child, their room is SO much more than a bedroom, it’s also their playroom, work room, creative space, and most importantly, it’s just for them! When designing around these thoughts, remember that children grow and change quickly, and you want a space that will adapt to their growing needs and ever-changing style ideas. The rooms we selected this week do an excellent job of giving children enough space, while being easily changeable.

Happy Planning!

Window Seats

Seating in a child’s room is always going to be important. When they’re young, it will be mainly for you and your spouse, but as they grow, the seats will be filled with their friends. We love the idea of planning for a comfortable window seat as a feature to the room. First of all, it will have some of the best views from the house, overlooking your plot, but it will also serve a practical purpose. It will be a perfect spot to read stories together for years to come. As a bonus, you could make the bench seat with storage underneath for when the room needs to be tidied up and everything put away.

Maybe it was just us, but when we were kids, we loved having cozy spots to curl up and sleep in. There is something satisfying about a small space that makes it feel totally your own for a little while. We love this modern approach to giving kids that sense of enclosed space. The wood framing is gorgeous and will still be satisfying to children. As an added detail, we love the individual screens inside the cocoon, it would be one lucky kid to get their own TV like that!

A New Way to Bunk

Bunk beds, you love them or your hate them. At some point, I think every child dreams of having bunk beds, they are the universal symbol of sleepover adventure. Unfortunately, they aren’t easy to find, and most of them aren’t particularly pleasing. In this photo, the family has selected to build bunks directly into their home plans, we love the result! It almost feels like two separate bedrooms, and it’s also very grown-up. A bunk system like this can be used for years, and won’t be an eyesore even if you aren’t using it every day.

Foster Creative Minds

Is it too late to make this next room my personal bedroom? This room is made for creativity, play, and imagination, three traits that every child wants and needs. Although the tent is complicated, the style behind the room is not. Painting a wall as a blackboard is easy (we recommend using regular Plascon black matte paint, it’s even better than the chalkboard paint). Your child will have years of joy being able to custom design their walls, and when they grow out of it, it’s a simple paint job for the room to ‘grow up’ a bit. Instead of the tent, a cozy reading nook full of pillows will do the trick!

Home Inspirations: Outdoor Dining Year Round

This week we’re looking at some sophisticated and stylish outdoor dining spaces that are a far cry from putting an old table and a candle on your veranda. These dining spaces will make you want to eat al fresco year round thanks to the gorgeous Lusaka weather and natural Bonanza beauty. While you are thinking about what shape your new house will take, get some inspiration to make your outdoor dining area a fully integrated part of your house, and not just an afterthought! With some forethought into what flooring your outdoor dining area should have, as well as how much lighting to provide, you’ll be well on your way to creating some serious home-envy in your friends (in a good way, of course!)

Happy Planning!

Classical Mediterranean

We think this dining space is a natural look for the Bonanza plots, and perhaps isn’t as complicated as it looks! Focus on a strong floor finish, the red terracotta tiles are perfect in Southern Africa, and then accent the area with raised flower beds. If you’re feeling creative, consider incorporated a water feature just like the photo, the gentle sound of water is universally magical. Again, this look can’t be an afterthought, but isn’t too much to add into your overall home design.

Modern and Sleek

It always seems strange at first, but we think that the sleek modern look totally works for Bonanza plots. The clean and minimalist lines really showcase the natural beauty around the plots without detracting from what is naturally occurring. With this look, you’ll be the braai-master of the neighborhood for sure! he built-in outdoor kitchen means that when you have guests over, you’ll get to enjoy the event without being stuck cooking inside. Keep it extra social by adding a couple of bar seats close to the grill, that way your guests will gravitate over to your work area without getting in the way.

The Classic Poolhouse

This look is completely traditional but shouldn’t be overlooked. Having a private and sophisticated standalone pool dining area is a perfect way to spend time in your garden throughout the year. At night its private and tropical, and in the daytime it doubles up as a perfect space for kid’s towels, juice, games, and a calm area for parents to supervise.

Complete the Outdoor Indoor Room

OK, for our far-out look of the week, think about making your outdoor dining room appear entirely indoors. This is achieved through careful selection of the furniture and decor (don’t forget, it does still have to be outdoor furniture!), and making the roofed area extra deep. This will keep out the majority of the weather without damaging your things. A few finishing touches that make this space more like a room than the veranda is the polished ceiling, complete with hanging lights, and the rustic brick floor that is so richly fulfilling it could be inside your house. We love this extreme look for Lusaka because there are so few days in a year where the weather could intrude into your space, and with careful furniture planning, it can be withstood elegantly!

Home Inspirations: Dive Into These Swimming Pool Ideas

Wow, it’s getting HOT in Lusaka, let’s cool off with some magnificent pool ideas that will get your mind swimming with possibilities! Forget swimming pools that only kids can enjoy, this week we’re looking at some seriously grown-up pools that will make you feel like you’re on holiday in your own garden. In order to enjoy your pool all year, consider putting other social elements in your pool area such as fire pits and bar counters, that way you’ll be enjoying the space even in winter.

Our other favorite ideas for Bonanza swimming pools is to incorporate the natural plants and colors into your pool setting. With 5 acres of lush grasses and wildflowers on your property, keeping the ambiance around your pool natural will elevate your private hideaway to the next level. As long as your keep tidy plants around your pool, you shouldn’t have any extra maintenance and upkeep in having plants so close to the pool border.

We can’t wait to hear from you about your posh pool planning, anything to cool off this October!

Happy Planning!

Traditional Pool With a Twist

This is a simple look to achieve simply by doing a little planning before you dig your pool. A deep kidney shape in the pool can be used to nestle a cozy fire-pit and built-in seats. It’s a perfect way to get warm in the winter without exposing yourself to Lusaka’s constant breeze, and make your pool area usable in any season! The built-in pool lights keep the area tropical and exciting.

Modern Infinity Pool

Infinity pools may be nice when they’re overlooking a river or sea, but we think they’re equally pleasing when they show-off the natural wilderness of Bonanza! We love the combination of the ultra-modern lines with the natural tree-scape in the background. This look is also fairly simple to achieve, and enhanced if you keep your pool furniture in the same modern theme. Also, this is still a great pool for children!

Ultra Romantic Hideaway

Bring the feel of an ultra-lux hotel to your Bonanza home! This pool is so dreamy and romantic we wish we could dive in right now. The slightly Asian shade cover keeps the pool area feeling tropical, and the shutters give this pool optional privacy. Achieve this look by using natural stones and keeping the pool color a deeper shade of blue. The wood structure is fairly straightforward but definitely creates great atmosphere, even if you don’t include the privacy shutters.

Natural Grasses

What we love about this pool is that it isn’t so…obvious. Let’s face it, most of us don’t use our pools often enough, so why not have a pool that blends in a little better? This pool does just that by being nestled within the golden grasses, a hallmark of Bonanza, as well featuring a sloped beach-style entry. It’s definitely more for adults than children, but if you’re looking to keep your garden natural and rustic, this might be the perfect way to achieve your goal and still have a functioning swimming pool.

Go “Au Naturel”

As usual, our last idea is a bit of a stretch, but it’s so wonderful we couldn’t resist. Imagine a swimming pool that looks and feel exactly like a natural pond. Except cleaner, and with a solid ground! If you’re looking to achieve this look, it’s going to take some planning with your pool company, but we just love the idea of incorporating natural boulders and pebbles to create a shape that is completely natural. Also, we like how this pool has a shallow and deep end, even though it doesn’t look so conspicuous!
